Taking a “leaf” out of NABARD’s mission to promote sustainable and equitable agriculture and rural prosperity in the country, the design for the new office building in Dehradun evolves out of a leaf form. Gentling curving walls rise up to respond to the surrounding terrain. Office spaces are housed within an elliptical floor plan with a five storey tall atrium. Maximal view to the hills is achieved through optimum orientation and choice of fenestration material.
The architecture of the space is deeply rooted in sustainable design principles. Optimum orientation and fenestration bring in natural light and enhance indoor temperatures. The Solarium traps heat within and radiates it to the office spaces resulting in a comfortable work environment. Landscape on the terrace retains warmth in the cold months. Low flow plumbing fixtures along with low/zero VOC paints minimise the environmental footprint of the building.
